I think I am still underpaid. I want to make as much money as my male counterparts.

At 18, I wanted to work with the creme de la creme because I thought that was the only way to be successful. But I don't think any A-lister has done as many B-grade films as I have.

When I was born, my parents - my mother especially - couldn't come to terms with that fact that they had another baby girl. I know these stories in detail because every time a guest visited, or there was a gathering, they repeated this story in front of me that how I was the unwanted child.

I don't feel like a 27-year-old; I feel I am way mature than someone that age.

People talk about PlayStations, video games, social network and Twitter; I can't handle it.

I write poems, I meditate. I don't live up to people's expectations. I don't do the conventional cool things - I know I am the coolest person.

I am not comfortable walking the ramp for just any designer. I am particular about who I associate with.

While choosing a fashion show, I take into consideration the designer and the collection. Then only I said yes to do a show.

The other actresses, who are called my contemporaries, they started with a megastar. They were superstars overnight and are the same even today.

Initially, I wanted to do films with A-list actors when I was struggling. I was hoping that I could also get that platform where I'm launched with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan or Aamir Khan... and with them my career could also start, but it didn't happen. And then came 'Queen.'

I am now in a position to choose roles. I did not have so many offers before 'Queen', but now things have changed a lot.

Marriage is made out to be so important for girls but the focus has to shift at some point from marriage to the real challenges of life which are the same for women and men, so we have to prepare our girls just the way we prepare our boys.

Forget the credit, they (male actors) take all the money as well. We don't get paid even one-third of what male actors get. It's not so much about the money, but it's about (being a) woman.

I am not quite comfortable with people identifying themselves as my fans. You know nothing about me. You have just seen me perform in a film. How can you be my fan? If I have to tell you honestly, I want an audience and not fans.

It's funny that they've called homosexuality a crime... At this rate, everyone will be a criminal.

I come from Surajpur, a valley in Himachal Pradesh near Manali that is named after my great grandfather Sarju Singh Ranaut. He was a minister for 15 years…I come from a big family not in terms of money, but reputation and grew up in a protective mountain environment…My father slapped me for the first time at 15 and I told him, ‘If you slap me I will slap you back’. I felt raising your hand on anybody is inappropriate and always had a high regard for my self. My dad asked me to leave the house and I did so without a single penny in my pocket.
