Sometimes a loss is the best thing that can happen. It teaches you what you should have done next time.
I’m a romantic, but I’m not a romantic in the traditional sense. I like to romanticize what happens to me. Whatever happens to me – you could quantify it as good or bad – I romanticize it. I think along the lines of ‘When that thing happened, it made me who I am.’ That kind of thing. It’s a different way of being romantic.
As it happens, I have personally been something of an enthusiast for the London Olympic games, mainly on the grounds a) that a bit of wasteland will be made nice and b) that it tends to make everybody happy that their country should be the centre of world attention for a couple of weeks in their life.
