If the education of our kids comes from radio, television, newspapers – if that’s where they get most of their knowledge from, and not from the schools, then the powers that be are definitely in charge, because they own all those outlets.
We just did a show in Providence, Rhode Island, and we got three puppy shots before we even got on the air, which was great. Although sometimes you get flashed by some puppies that you’d rather not see. They’re more like mongrels.
It’s not like a corporate job where the more you accumulate on your resume and the more hours you put in, the higher up you get; it’s simply not the case. That being said, if I had known that and known what kind of career I’d get into, I still would have pursued it.
I think a lot of what is going on with kids who get pushed too far and attempt either murder or suicide is that they are trying to deal with their own non-existence for the people who are supposed to care most for them.
Last tour my bass rig was breaking down every other night. That was a pain. We would get on stage and Trey would count off the song, and I’d play the first note and nothing would be there. Those guys would just roll their eyes.
